Most people agree that puppies are cute, loveable creatures that make great companions in life. However, when a puppy first arrives into its new home, it needs to be taught the rules and broken of its puppy tendencies. One of the most troublesome habits that some pet owners (and their close neighbors) encounter, is barking.

The key to silencing the yips is not immediately yelling, like some owners tend to react, it’s understanding what the puppy wants and working to satisfy its needs as well as teaching it what’s right and wrong. Here are five common reasons why a puppy barks, and some helpful hints to cope.

1. Boredom (the whiney bark) – Just like human children, puppies get bored quickly. They bark because they want to get their owner’s attention, usually looking to play. Puppies need to be played with often and kept as active as possible. Avoid keeping the puppy tied or kept somewhere by itself. Frequent interactions are important for a happy, quiet puppy.

2. Lack of exercise (the impatient bark) – Puppies are balls of energy and need exercise. However, they also get tired out more quickly than older dogs. Owners should use this opportunity to start training the puppy to walk on a leash or fetch. This tires the puppy out while teaching it valuable skills.

3. Fear (the entirely-too-loud bark) – Again, just like human children, puppies get scared. Common fears are vacuum cleaners and thunderstorms. Owners should comfort puppies as they would comfort small children.

4. Defending territory (the mean bark) – A puppy will think it’s a full grown dog way before it actually is and will establish an area around the home that it will “defend.” It barks when it sees any living thing enter the area, or even just walk by.

To make sure the puppy isn’t barking at the wrong people, owners should introduce the puppy early to people or animals that will enter the home or yard frequently. This may include family members, older pets and the mail carrier. Not only will the other animals and people become comfortable with the new pet, the puppy will recognize them and hopefully cut down on the verbal aggression.

5. Lack of attention (the demanding bark) – This is arguably the key reason why a puppy barks. Puppies adore their owners and crave love and attention. In relation to boredom and lack of exercise, quality time with the puppy should satisfy this need to bark, and again, is an opportune chance to start teaching the vital dos and don’ts.

Recognizing these five symptoms and following the suggestions should ensure that a puppy’s barking will decrease to a manageable level, and eventually be a long lost habit proudly broken early.

Dogs are great companions and with a little training, they can become great cycling partners. Dogs love to run but before you partner-up with your canine friend for a long and speedy ride, it’s imperative that you take his endurance and size into consideration. Some of the best breeds for companion cycling are Akitas, Alaskan malamutes, Labrador retrievers, collies and huskies. These dogs are all working breeds and have incredible stamina.

When your dog is a puppy, he can’t be trained as a canine cycling companion. Start training him when he turns a year old and keep cycling trips short. As time passes, gradually increase the length of your cycling trips. Within a few weeks, your canine companion should be able to keep up for a nice cycling outing. By the time he’s two years old, he should run at approximately ten miles per hour for sixty minutes. This speed is perfect for riding trails and your dog should be able to keep this pace until he is about six.

Once your dog reaches six years old, he may slow down a little. Be alert to pace as your pet ages. Your canine companion should be able to handle cycling trips with ease. As long as you match his pace, your canine cycling companion will be able to continue joining you on cycling trips for years

Always be alert for signs of weariness when cycling with your canine companion, no matter his age. If he begins to walk instead of run or if he tries to lie down or lags behind, stop the training session immediately.

Your canine companion should never accompany you on cycling trips that take place in traffic or on paved streets. Take him along only when you plan to cycle on trails.

Dogs love to run and some will literally run themselves to death. You are responsible for your canine companion’s well being. Here are some warning signs to watch for while cycling with your dog.

• Lagging behind.

• Disorientation.

• Trying to lie down.

• Lethargy.

• Excessive drooling.

• Limping.

• Excessive panting.

• Bright red membranes around the eyes or bright red gums

• Noisy breathing that indicates respiratory problems.

A dog’s normal body temperature runs between 100 degrees and 102.5 Fahrenheit. Dogs only perspire through their paw pads and they pant to keep their body temperature at normal levels. Take your canine cycling companion out early in the morning or in the evening when it’s cooler. Try to ride on trails that are near creeks, lakes, streams and rivers, so your dog can take a plunge to refresh. This helps to prevent canine heat stroke.

Having a pet is one thing that a lot of people today appreciate completely. Nurturing a dog from a pup into a full-grown canine can be hugely pleasing and provide you with a loving companion for many years. Yet, unless you have your dog mature through dog obedience training, you actually could regret your decision to buy a dog. Without proper dog obedience training, many varieties of canine are by nature destructive because of their pent-up energy. Taking walks with your untrained family dog might be a aggravating adventure as well. If you would like obtain the most from your own experience with having a dog, you should look at choosing a professional training company.

Competent dog trainers already have expertise working with a range of breeds with different type of personalities. What’s the dog obedience training you are having the most issues with? A common one is actually the lack of house training. You need to get the puppy to understand that the backyard is where to relieve him, certainly not the great room rug. This really is absolutely the most recognized reason that owners get rid of their particular dogs. Nevertheless, with proper qualified instruction, your dog will be able to stay with you and continue being a steadfast companion without creating a mess in your home.

An additional common issue for pet owners is the failure of the pet to heel on strolls. Often your new puppy pulls ahead, choking themselves on the collar or he or she lags behind smelling interesting things on the footpath. Your pet dog should be conditioned to obey you and your wishes as his or her master. A pro can provide you with the ideas you’ll want to make walking your pup a pleasant adventure for you and the canine friend. You can benefit from one-on-one expertise so any kind of inappropriate behavior from you of the dog obedience training could be fixed promptly. The dog will be taught more quickly than you ever considered feasible!

Usually, dog obedience is actually for the pup’s individual safe keeping. In the event your family dog has previously bolted out of a wide open doorway, your very first thought goes to the puppy’s safety and also of passersby. Simply by teaching your pet to unquestionably react to the order “down” or “stay,” you could put a stop to this conduct. Some other simple commands like “sit” and “come” are of help in everyday scenarios. If you feel like several these instructions are outside your power to instruct your family dog, make sure you retain the services of a dog trainer who understands how to take the dog’s breed, age and individuality into consideration when they train your puppy to obey.
